The film is about two women, both in their early 60s, who’ve been friends for a long time but haven’t seen each other in years: Ingrid (Julianne Moore), an art-world author based in New York City, and Martha (Tilda Swinton), a former globe-trotting war correspondent for the New York Times who Ingrid reconnects with when she learns that Martha is in the hospital fighting a battle with cancer. Her illness is serious: It’s stage-three cervical cancer, and she’s undergoing a highly experimental immunotherapy treatment, which is the only chance she has.

Mr. Burton

RUNNING TIME 124 MINUTES

START TIME 7.45 PM
Picture
Mr. Burton tells the true story of the relationship between Port Talbot schoolmaster Philip Burton and a wild young schoolboy called Richard Jenkins, later known as legendary actor Richard Burton. The son of a wayward drunk, Richard dreamed of becoming an actor, but his ambitions were in danger of being derailed by a combination of family trouble, the pressure of war, and his own lack of discipline. Mr. Burton recognized the raw talent in his pupil and become his tutor, strict taskmaster and eventually his adoptive father.

Lawtey is the true star of the piece, a mesmerising presence both in early scenes as the rough-around-the-edges pupil and in latter stages of the narrative, when his volatile personality threatens to derail a thespian career before it's barely begun.
Radio Times

The film is too devoted and sedate to fly as a cinematic event. It has the feel of a Sunday evening television drama.

The Penguin Lessons

CERTIFICATE 12A
RUNNING TIME 111 MINUTES

START TIME 7.45 PM
Picture
Inspired by the true story of a disillusioned Englishman who went to work in a school in Argentina in 1976. Expecting an easy ride, Tom discovers a divided nation and a class of unteachable students. However, after he rescues a penguin from an oil-slicked beach, his life is turned upside-down.

A well-meaning, awkward tonal jumble of a movie, based on the bestselling memoir by former teacher Tom Michell; it is a quirky true-story heart warmer.
The Guardian

The Penguin Lessons also proves unexpectedly moving, its emotional manipulations fully forgivable. By the time it ends with home-movie footage of the real-life Juan Salvador happily swimming in the school’s pool, you’ll have fully succumbed to its charms.

Maria

RUNNING TIME 124 MINUTES

Maria Callas is one of the most iconic performers of the 20th century. The film follows the Greek-American soprano as she retreats to Paris after a glamorous and tumultuous life in the public eye, reimagining the legendary diva in her final days as she reckons with her identity and life.

Angelina Jolie's acting imbues the entire film with tremendous emotional power. To me, this movie, Maria, was an absolute masterpiece.
Rotten Tomatoes

Jolie is staggeringly good. · It is, as much as anything else, a study of performance and fame.
